Mark Felman (violin)
Sylvie Courvoisier (piano)
A spectacular presentation of music from John Zorn’s Book of Angels and music from their new album by two passionate virtuosos whose work together is never less than perfection itself. Contextualizing the music into a classical recital for violin and piano, this is the chamber music of the future. Exciting and breathtaking, Feldman and Courvoisier perform with imagination, lyricism and an intense energy. New music by one of the greatest violin/piano pairings ever.
Mark Feldman is established now as one of jazz’s finest string players. Based in New York since 1986, he is a much sought-after player. Feldman has been closely associated with John Zorn on numerous projects and has performed with amongst very many others, Paul Bley, Muhal Richard Abrams, Lee Konitz, John Taylor, Dave Douglas, Tim Berne, Bill Frisell, Joe Lovano, Kenny Wheeler and Louis Sclavis. A violinist of astounding virtuosity, Feldman has been dubbed “the Heifetz of our generation”. Feldman is amongst the most prolific of contemporary recording artists having appeared on more than 100 jazz and improvised albums and more 200 albums during a decade as a session player in Nashville.
Sylvie Courvoisier is among today's most original and promising musicians and composers perhaps best known for her acclaimed ECM release, Abaton. Moving to New York she has quickly become a leading figure on the contemporary scene there playing and recording with John Zorn, Tim Berne, Joey Baron, Mark Feldman, Dave Douglas, Fred Frith among others. Her most recent release is the acclaimed Signs and Epigrams on John Zorm's Tzadik Records. A virtuosic pianist and daring composer, she has been influenced by modern classical composers like Ligeti, Varese, Schönberg, Schnittke or Takemitsu as well as such jazz pianists as Bill Evans and Thelonious Monk.
